It's my first time using them, I tied and anchored them with lots of cotton to stones and logs, tipped them upside down to make sure they were fast and they didn't drop or anything. Put them in the tank and half of it floated off and just looks awful. It's in hundreds of tiny pieces that I've thrown away.

The riccia that has stayed anchored is not sitting flat it's floating away from whatever it's tied to.

Going planted was possibly not the best idea

Any tips?

It's a nightmare to work with and the planted tanks make it look so easy

Mine's just gone into hundreds of tiny pieces

That may be due to not enough light or co2, with riccia, dosing extra phosphorous is reccomended

It come in the post this morning and I just assumed it would be ready to use.

The best thing to do then is float for a week (it will nearly of doubled) then try tying it down,

What about the half I successfully tied down, shall I put hairnetting over it and let it grow or should I release it and float all of it together (which would be quite heartbreaking lol)

I'd put hair netting over the top - should keep it down. :good:

STALKKKKERRRRRRRR :p

Make a sort of "Corral" out of airline tubing. I did this initially to keep it all together floating at the top of my tank. I tied some cotton to it and anchored it to the side of my tank with a suction cup. Make sure you seal off the ends of the airline somehow else water gets in and it sinks ;) Hopefully it should grow out a bit and be easier to anchor.

I have to say though, I got so fed up with the stuff I ditched it after a few weeks. Takes a lot of maintenance once its tied down. As it grows bits manage to escape and float to the surface.
