all of my fish's maximus temp is 27 and the minimun of the discus is 27 so no problem
That's giving you absolutely no margin for error on the temperature :/ What if something goes wrong with your heater, etc.?
Also, Discus can't be kept with Angels or Gouramis (I don't know if you have any in the tank your planning to put the Discus in) as they are from the same family. Add to that Discus don't really like Clown loaches as they are a bit boisterous IMO you should re-think this impulse buy.

buy 1 or 2 at the begginign to see if i can keep them alive first
Spoken like a true lover of fish :/

i do not agree with what you just said

i have went to japan on my trip and the "professinal" tank in the middle of the mall had angels with discus together, if you will know what sparklin gouramis are, you will not say that they are not compatible.

i am a true lover of fish, if i buy 6 all at once and they all die, that would be me killing 6 fish but if i cant keep them alive only 2 dies instead of 6, i have done alot a of reaserch in the last few hours and 4 is ok from what i read :/

EDIT: also freshmike keeps a gourami with his discus and cheese specialist keeps angels with discus

and these 2 are some of my most respected fishkeeper! :sly:

Indeed. The store I just bought my angels from had discus, angels, and clown loaches in that big tank. All were very healthy.

so it is normal for discus to not have adult coloring because if they do they are stunted, this i read just now, is it true?

I believe they get their full adult colouring at sexual maturity. No idea what age that is though. Mine is 4" and he has his adult coloration already. Doesn't seem stunted at all.

in what way are gouramis from the same family as discus?

Many say that angels and discus should not be kept to gether because of a dormant parasite/disease that is on the angel naturally but will attack and kill discus.

I would never keep one discus, I don't care what any website says. You can find whatever 'information' you want if you want it enough and look hard enough. They are fish that live in groups and have shoals around them ans so to keep them happy they should be kept in a group with a shoal around them.

You should really have 2 (although most say 4-6 but 2 is better than a lone one), especially if they are not expensive. I don't think you really have an excuse not to.

As far as I know, discus do not get their proper colouring until they are bigger and older but younder healthy ones can show nice colouring. The biggest of my discus has very nice colouring and patterning although he is still little.

In my experinece and those of many people I've heard from, having 2 (any less than 4-6) is just asking for trouble. one will be dominant and pick on the other one till it dies. (This actually happened to me).

As for the colouring, I researched a bit and found that teh juveniles are juiced up with a special hormone that makes their colours brighten early. After a whiel in your tank they will lose their colours, but regain them as they grow older. (Don't quote me on this though).

In your experience?! You've only had one discus for a few weeks. 2 are usually ok if they are bougth at the same size and as young as possible.

You are right about a group though, they are much better in a group of an even number.

I wouldn't bother trying to explain anything. In one ear, out the other. I wash my hands of this topic :>

Actually I've had 2. The first one I had for a month, then I got a new one and the new one killed my old one after a couple of days. And yes they were relatively the same size and still juvies.

It's also kind of weird considering you'd expect the old one to be dominant (home turf and all that) but no, the new one came in and took right over, taking the old one's favourite spot under the big anubias and chasing it at feeding time, etc. I guess with juvies you never know what to expect unless they are from the same litter and are raised in the same tank, and with an LFS there is no guarantee. Another reason why it's better to buy for hundreds of dollars from breeders :/ . The only way to be sure if two discus will get along is if they are large adults and a mated pair.

Or you could follow accepted advise and set up a discus tank where the discus are the priority and there is a shoal of them so a pecking order can be safely established, and the natural behaviors of the discus observed. As opposed to just doing whatever you want with no regard for what is best for the fish, and thinking that because it survived such treatment for a month that you should advise others to do the same.
