So I got 3 blue acaras that were 2". Well the 2 were beat up my one. So I took him out now the 2 are doing great not fighting at all. Looks like one was trying to show off doing a little shimmy when the other is near. Its not a mean or aggressive shimmy its showing off
They no longer go after eachother now that it is just the pair.well they might not be a breeding pair but they do like each other. I will try to get a video. The shimmy is like what the do when the spawn. You know that shake.

Cross my fingers I think I have a pair...!!

Sounds very much like you're going to be swamped with fry very soon..... At least the market for Blue Acara is reasonably healthy (unlike Convicts) so you won't be stuck with them...... Good luck!... The proceeds will enable you to set up your next tank...lol

Fingers crossed for you hon. Are you actually wanting to breed from them, if so, you might want to consider putting them in their own tank, one they will be less stressed and be happier raising their fry in peace and also because they will become fairly aggressive with the other fish in the tank purely because they will be protecting their eggs/fry, will also stop the eggs/fry being eaten.

Let us know if they do, good luck :good:

wow, congratulations!

Blue arcas are stunning fishes!

Fingers crossed for sure. Last light I did see one chase the other, but this morning they are back to hanging out together. Their markings are both bright with dark vertical stripes. They look awesome. I am finally get to move them into their 55 gal on Monday. My tank is done cycling :) it only took 8 weeks... I think once in the large tank I will really get to see them shine. Oh I can't wait. I had planed on them being the main fish. With 6 Corys , 7 Red eye tetras, and my Medusa pleco. That's all I will keep if I do have a pair.

I would like them to breed but If they don't that's fine I just want them to get along. My poor third Acara had to be removed from those two he now lives with a keyhole and Bolivian ram. He is much happier to be away from the 2 acaras. I think it would be fun for my daughter to see them breed and care for the young. You can't find theses fish where I live. I had to order them online because the stores around me could not get them. So finding homes should not be a problem I hope.

Easy to confirm if you have male & female....simply check their Dorsals & anal fins.... the pointed would be your male, and the rounded the female.... let us know if you detect a difference there......

They are still to young to have full fins only 2.5". So I think they need to grow into their fins. So far the way they act and the fact they forced me to move the third acara I think they are a pair only time will tell for shore.

Ok I was checking for any different things about the body. The show off has a squared off head where the quite one that just watches has a nice slopeing head. I'm now 85% sure they are a pair. Marg and Homer are the names. They crack me up. The male will bite the fake plants and shake them so show off. I can't wait to see how they act in their 55 gal tank.

I was watching my fish yesterday they were swimming around happy and fine. The One I think is male was showing off fighting the near by plants. I'm still not 100% sure. But just this morning I noticed the breeding tube of the one I think is female is larger then it was yesterday its bigger and rounder. The one I think is male is the same small and pointed.

I did a 20% water change yesterday my water is all good. At first I thought oh no is their something wrong with my fish. Then I realised maybe she is getting ready???

Anyone that has bred Blue acaras ever notice the breeding tube becoming larger on the female?

OMG I DO HAVE A M/F PAIRE !!!!! WOOOHOOO THEY ARE CLEANING A ROCK AND DANCING AROUND EACH OTHER. THE FEMALES BREEDING TUBE HAS DROPPED !!!!

I'm so excited I only had to buy 3 and I got a pair oh I'm so happy. They have been flirting with each other for some time now. Looks like they have settled on a breeding spot. I'm going to be a grandma soon I hope. They have a 55 gal tank with plants all to them selves. Well they share it with a medusa pleco who only comes out at night.

I'm so excited this has been my plan for so long and its all happening. Homer and Marge are making a home.

I have a 10 and 46 Gal tank to grow up the fry in too I am ready.
