Just out of curiosity, can ornaments - such as castles for fish to hide in - leech chemicals such as ammonia into the water after a while being in a tank? I have a castle that has been in use for a good 10+ years, and may have found something that broke off it, but I can't be entirely certain; it was rather rigid in shape, metallic, and I don't think any of my fish are strong enough to break anything off the castle, nor have I seen the castle physically deteriorate in a manner that would suggest it broke off it (it might have been from an old lead plant weight). Even if it wasn't off the castle, and to be honest I don't think it was, I'm still wondering about whether it's time to get a new ornament for the fish to hide in (or could I run into issues there also?).
