Old Internal Filter Could It Lift Water?

As stated do you think it would be plausible to use the head/impeller housing (from my extensive collection) and a suitable length of hose to lift water out of my 5 gallon buckets of dechlorinated temperature corrected water up and into the tank rather than jug lifting the contents out by hand, or perhaps a garden pond pump may be suitable, any thoughts on my ideas or any more suitable but remaining economical suggestions would be greatly appreciated .

You could, I would find it easier to buy a cheap powerhead and put a hose on the outflow. Loads of fokes do it that way oor run a hose from a tap or shower

Most internals are essentially powerheads with a box on the bottom. Basically you need one with a bit of grunt behind it to get the head of water moving with enough actual flow to be worth bothering with. So go for one of the bigger of the old internals and give it a try.

Well I've just tried one of the AquaOne Maxi filter units that I had to hand and that managed to lift the water just over 30" and only at a trickle, I might just have to push the boat out and buy something fit for purpose  (thanks for your input guys)

I tried using a old 600litre/hour Juwel pump head to pump water from bucket into tank, but could barely manage 2 foot before flow stopped. However JBL u750 (750litre/hour) easily manages it, floor into tank. In fact changed things, I now mix and dechlorinate water in kitchen (in 40litre buckets) and this pump manages to pump along 20foot of hose into tank. Job done.

There's always the cheap online shops like APS, they quote a max head as well on the water pump type kit.

how about something like This http/www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Drill-pump-heavy-duty-oil-and-fluids-suitable-all-drills-TE472-/140928355039#vi-content I use something very similar for transferring water between water butts, works well, this one states a max pumping height of 15 meters, but that would be dependant on the drill used, I use a 18v cordless drill for running my pump without problems, might be worth a try at the price

Picked up a Maxi-jet 1000 water pump for just over £20 has a max head of 1.5m only need it to lift 1.25m max

Does the job just fine even with super skinny hose that I somehow managed to fit on the output+ it can run dry without damage so can get on with other stuff while tank is refilling, Can also use it to vacuum within reason when emptying (with the filter strainer in place)   I just need some correct diameter hose pipe
much more realistic choice than the 400w submersible pumps that was thinking I may have to get,
