Ok currently have 4 ft tank going through a fish in cycle, and my 3.5 ft going through a fishless.

HAVE DECIDED TO SET UP MY 2 FT TANK.

will set this up in kids room. kids love the idea of a blue lobster.

Although i am open to everyones idea's on stocking.

So what would you all stock in a 2 footer? would love to know.

it currently has a 14watt fluo Bulb and is really bright when on

thanks

The blue lobster would probably be fun for the kids to watch, my nephews love my cray. When it comes to any tank mates the selection is pretty limited unless you can get a blue of the opposite sex. I might suggest dwarf crays of some kind as you could have several depending on the species, I myself have cajun dwarfs.

Another route you could go is a species tank like loaches. I see you have clowns and if you like them zebra loaches have much the same characteristics and are very active but stay relatively small by comparison. You could also go with something a little different like endlers, tetras or whatever you fancy.

There are really a lot of choices it's just about size and swimming room. I'm sure others will have many more suggestions but those are just a few of mine.

Oooh dont think i have see dwarf crays.

Ok so say i go for neon tetras and have it planted. how many neons could i put in the 2 ft tank?

the kids are doing my head in. ( i am trying to take over their tank ) lol :hyper:

if someone could tell me how many neons i could get. i could try perswade them to get neons lol

Unfortunately, Neons should only be added to a tank once it's cycled AND matured, usually a good 6-8 weeks after the cycle has finished. You could always get half a dozen fish of any kind and then swap them for the Neons after a couple of months, once the tank has matured. Ask the LFS if they'll give you a part exchange when it's time for the Neons. In a two foot tank, I'd put a group of around 15 in there, along with plenty of bushy plants. A small tub of Tetra complete substrate under the gravel and you're away. Don't let the kids persuade you to get brightly coloured gravel, though, just plain small-ish pea gravel.

If you are doing a fishless cycle, you should be able to add any fish straight away. Fish are only made unsuitable by their tolerance to the by-products of the cycle (ie ammonia and nitrite).

I added Neons to my tank straight after a fishless cycle with no problems at all. :good:

I also dont consider a 6-8 week old tank to be mature. 6-8 months maybe.
