Ok so some of you may have seen me asking about other stocking ideas but this just came to me inspired by snowflake13s little fella :) So as you may have heard I have some HRP and combined with a few tabs of reading I have a new plan of fish people may have actually heard of ;)

2 HRP (1M 1F)
1 EBJD - need guidance on these please :)
2 Nics (2 female)
5 Anostomus Ternetzi
6 Silver Hatchets or Columbian tetras
1 L235
1 L135

What do you think? I kind of just thought of how awesome an all blue tank would look. If I had room I would add in a blue phantom plec :D:p

Sorry for stock plan post overload recently Im a bit excited about the new tank.

Thanks Wills :D

Ebjd are not peaceful but are not as mean as the normal. I don't think your HRP would be a tank mate for them. My Ebjd can be bossy with smaller fish and holds his own with larger.

Whats a Nics I tried to look it up and got nothing.

As for the plecos they should be fine together both get about 5" and are as long as you have lots of caves for them to pick from. But these are territorial and all plecos poop A LOT! So I would just get one.

The Anostomus ternetzi might be ok but they get to be 6" and well I think with them and the EBJ with thoes 5" pleco you are pushing it.

What do you want to know about the EBJD?

Hi thanks for the reply info with the ebjd you answered everything, this was kind of an impulse post and after some reading I can tell it wont work. I've never kept regular JDs and only ever seen juvis so not sure of what levels of violence they have so wasnt sure if the ebjd was a peaceful version of the jd like the HRP is of the con. So yeah with that I was trusting peoples experiences. So thankyou for that.

With the plecs I have both now in my 3 foot, was unaware of the L135 being territorial though I knew the L235 was but they both have their own area the 135 has her coconut and the 235 sticks to the back wall. Not planning to add any more plecs or catfish though. I know all about the poop I vac up 3 times a week but hoping the FX5 will have a bit more suction on it to move the poop around.

I have 3 of the ternetzi at the moment and the trio works quite well but I think the group needs at least one more just to spread out the squabbles. They dont really fight or do damage but the closest thing I can put it to is like raibow fish flaring to each other. But I think its my responsibility to look after the group.

Nics are Nicaraguan cichlids, the females are yellow with a blue head and generally grow smaller than males.

But yeah I think this stocking idea has died in reflection sorry to waste time etc.

I agree with snowflake, I dont think the HRP would go particularly well with the EBJD. However, I wanted to add my experience with Nic's. I bought two females a while ago that went in my 125g tank, one became far more dominant to the point that she killed her sibling and then harrassed pretty much every other fish in the tank, including severums, firemouth, aureus etc, in the end I rehomed her as she was too aggressive, now this isnt to say that all Nic's are the same, I may have just got one with a personality disorder  but I thought you might like the information anyway.

Thanks Minxy I'm having a really tough time working out what I want and what will work. I know a few here will understand the feeling but its just really bummed me out since I woke up this morning. Wills

I know you have your HRP that definately need to be in the tank, what else do you already have?

At the moment I've got

2 HRP
3 A. Ternetzi (not sure about keeping these though - might swap these for a school)
1 L235
1 L135

I was looking at some kind of acara like Aequedens Diadema or a Krobia sp I also saw some pictures of a Laetacara Buckelkopf that look amazing. Also considered the new small earth eaters G.Pindare but I am totally open to any other ideas.

Thanks minxy

I see no problem with a diadema, although I know very little about them, assuming they are similar in temprement to A.Pulcher and not A. Rivulatus, they should be fine with the HRP. G.Pindare would also be fine (sand substrate or fine gravel is best as Im sure you are aware).

Of course an A.Pulcher would be fine too if you like instead of A. Diadema. Or alternatives to the G.Pindare would be G.Surinamensis or G. Tapajos, although they do get larger than Pindare, by around 2".

You could also (and Im suggesting because I love em) Thorichthys Ellioti or Aureus, both far more peaceful to their relative T.Meeki and IMO more beautiful.

From what I have read the diadema are more like a A.Pulcher if not a bit tamer, these I absolutely love! With the Surinamensis I had thought of having one but was unsure if the tank is big enough its a Fluval Roma 240 what do you think? Before I thought of the blue stocking idea I was thinking of

2 HRP
1 A.Diedema or Krobia sp - preferably a male
3 G. Pidare

Do you think this is too many cichlids? Of the 6 the pindare would be the biggest with a max documented size of 6"

Alternatively there is a Surinamensis in a little pet shop near my old home in the middle of nowhere he is about 2 years old and about 6 inches. So what about

2 HRP
1 G.Surinamensis
2 A.Diedema or Krobia sp (I say one or the other as both are a bit difficult to find and it may depend on individual fish as well I like to pick out individuals)

I'm planning to get sand probably toys r us sand I think but I want to mix in a small back of black or dark to make it look more natural. :)
Thanks again :D

I see no problem with G. Suri in a rio 240, I used to have two in a roma 240, they can be a little territorial with each other but nothing serious and they are perfectly happy as a single species.

I like the look of the 1st list best, purely as a group of Geo's look better. I dont think it would be overstocked at all, I currently have 4 S.Daemons which can reach 10" in a roma 240, plenty of space.

You also have plenty of room for a good size shoal of fish with that stocking.

Minxy do you know what I love you Ive been waiting for response on that first stock list for weeks!!

So what do you think to this plan?

2 HRP
1 A.Diadema
3 G.Pindare
8 Columbian Tetras? - placeholder not sure what to go with
4 A.Ternetzi
1 L135
1 L235

Do you think I could get away with 2 of the Diadema, I'm thinking no but in not sure.

Thankyou :D

*edit this is a Roma 240 so same tank as yours :) With a Fluval FX5 and maybe a Fluval 305 but I might sell the 305 not sure

Looks perfectly fine to me, I must admit Id be inclined to stick with a single Diadema, unless you can acurately sex them when buying, in case you end up with a pair who could become aggressive when spawning.

Colombian tetras are great little fish but any of the larger size tetras would be fine, of course me being the rainbow fan that I am, would use rainbows, but they are not to everyones taste and do get larger than the tetras.

I think you will only need the FX5, those chaps kick out some heafty flow, would be overkill with a 305 as well, on my 240 Im using the 305 and an eheim 2217 (which is probably overkill too, but the Daemons are extremely water quality sensitive), water quality crystal, I use the 305 with the outlet way down low in the tank to keep the sand cleaner, it pushes the poop along to the eheims intake :p Although saying that with Geo's (and I have corydoras too) they keep the sand very clean anyway with all the sifting.

Awesome :) Thankyou so much again not sure what size I will be able to get the A.Diedema at so will wait and see what I can find. Found an advert for an importer about 20 mins away from me on Aquarist Classified so that is pretty cool. Hoping I should be able to find them soon.

With the tetras I am unsure of what to go with. I quite like the flame tetras but not sure if they are large enough. I'm not opposed to rainbows but I kind of want to keep it just American biotope but if I see something that bends the rules I'll for for it. Got a trip to my favorite LFS tomorrow which I've been excited about all week and he can get quite a few interesting schoolers.

Thanks again Wills :)

Hazza!! I just sold my tank good day for my fish :D
