right, im going to get a tank in 2 weeks time...i really like the AQUA - 40 as its compact, has a bow-front glass, internal filter, replacements and cartridges are cheap, larger surface area.

but the VIA-AQUA 380 is bigger, taller, but has a bio-wheel..btu im not to fond of bio-wheels, how they just drip water form the hood, i think it looks unnatural. heres ma questions:

1. which tank should i get, bearing in mind i only want to keep an otto and a couple of tetras
2. which would filteration would be best?
3. any suggettions or advice will be more than appreciated!!! :D thanks in advance! :thanks:

i'd go for the via aqua as it's a larger tank. Glad you've finaly decided on stocking.

I think an otto and a couple of tetras sound good. You could get a shoal of around 7-10 tetra in your 7 gallon. I would'nt recommend any livebearer fish as your tank could become very quickly overpopulated as mine did!!

You could get some male guppies if you fancy some nice colours. I use my 7 gallon as a planted tank for my male fighter.

i worked it out on convetor, its 8.1 uk gallons...

so i am now thinkng:

- 3 guppys = (4.5inch)
- 1 otto = (1.5inch)
- 1 cherry barb = (2inch)
- total: 8 inch
wud this be ok? i knwo guppys grow 2inch, but IMO all fish grow to their suroundings to survive, say there is a goldfish with a potetial of 14" in a 13" tank, i think that they will grow shorter..but it is not healthy to stunt their growth.

ps: i dont think its fair to keep fast swimming tetras in a small tank now reading about them

Snails.... frogs.... shrimps, I wouldn't reccomend an otto as they need very good constant water conditions and in a small tank it's easy for the water stats to fluctuate.

Or you could keep some snails with a dwarf puffer, make sure you have a snail boom first, the puffer would happily eat the snails, and you wouldn't have to learn how to be a dentist if you are feeding him snails.

Make it three cherry barbs & lose the oto which won't thrive in less than mature tanks & do prefer company. Nerite snails are good algae eaters & won't breed,

mayb after its fully cycled nd matured? :

- 1 otto = 1.5inch
- i want to keep guppys now as they have more personality than tetras? how many tho?
- and a few amno shrimps as they contribute hardly any watste :good:
so how many guppys, and on a website it says ottos cant go with guppys, true?

diadehill, cherry barbs grow 2inch each rithe? well if i have 3 i will of nearly overstocked allready?

Cherry barbs rarely get past 1.5".
Ottos don't thrive in ones.
Ottos are fine with guppies but guppies prefer harder water so its need to be at the lower end of the guppies preference.
