It is rectangular, ive just cropped out the hood and sides a bit. It's taller than it is wide.

Is this one the aqua 40 youre on about?

Only holds 27litres though, not 45 litres like the Via Aqua 380. People always seem to say on here go for the biggest tank you can afford which I kind of agree with. You'd only be able to have about 6 fish in a 27litre tank. But then you have to compare £35 for that tank to around £90 for the Via Aqua one.

Personally Id go for the Via Aqua. Gives much more flexibility with the fish you could get. Just getting the fish and all the extras will cost another £100 or so whichever tank you go for thou :)

Your White cloud minnows will get to around 1.5 inches each
Honey Gouramis reach around 2.5 inches
Sparkling Gourami 1.5 inches
Schwartz's corys 2.5 inches

I think we will have an arguement about facts here, but this is what I know of the size of the fish (adult):

WCMM: 1.5 inches
Honey Gourami: Might reach 2 inches maximum
Sparkling Gourami: 1-1.5 inches
Schwartz's Cory: 2 inches

yh, i can afford the via-aqua 380, just that the aqua 40 has a bowfront glass and an internal filter...i dont know anything about bio-wheels, are they better? :shout: iv decided against the WCMM's now as they like coldwater and this is my fish i want to keep:

6 Neons or harleys (which one best?),
2 Schwartzs corys,
1 Honey gourami (cant find sparkling ones anywere!),

doesnt the aqua 40 hold 40litres??? its depth is set very far back.....thanks all.
and how many fish could i keep in the via-aqua 380?

UPDATE:

update...seen a green via-aqua 380 in my lfs :hyper: looks cooooool! and it is bigger......one thing its very very tall?? anyway i dont know what to stock it with, i really like x-ray tetras, and neons and black widows??? any suggestions on the choice?? definetly getting 2 corys tho! :good:

That's fine. I went by what I found in my fish books at home, baensch, etc. and bit of experience as I have kept some of those fish before. What's half an inch between friends

I have 4 pygmaeus cories & 5 harlequin rasboras in my tank.

Harlequin rasboras. (School, look great and are really active)

pygmaeus cory (School together, very active for catfish, always swimming up to surface etc.) Would look better on black sand thou

Tetra-Man2- for the bigger tank, I would suggest more corys, 2 isn't enough, 3-4 would be okay though. If you got Corydoras Pygmaeus then you could get a lot because they get TINY!

jonesyUK- fish books and websites can be deceiving, that's where i got my information though! Everyone seems to say different things, so I guess we are both right, no matter what minuscle half-inch we argue upon!

im thinking of getting the aqua 40 now, its perfect size and has a bow front glass :/ plus like the awy its set back quite far....and the lid has hinges and lil props to hold it up....................grrrrrrrrrrr cant decide + my mum said she will let me get it for easter and she will probs chip in lol i cnat wait for ages its doing my head in!

how many fish cud i keep in that aqua 40? and cud n e one suggest a stocking list? :good: thanks

Why do some people use stocking densities based on surface-area?

Stocking densities which use surface-area are based on the premise that the surface is important for gas exchange. These say that tanks with a smaller surface area can hold less fish than one with a bigger surface area. For example, a tank that's 30 x 30 x 60cm/12" x 12" x 24" tall only has a surface area of 0.09sq m/ 1.00sq ft. Whereas, a tank that is 60 x 30 x 30cm/24" x 12" x 12" has a surface area of 0.18sq m/2.00sq ft.

Although the two have the same volume, the tall one can only take half as many fish. I'd argue that if you have the same size filter on each tank, with the same amount of fish and the same feed rate, and you keep your water well-oxygenated, you'd be able to keep the same amount in each. I prefer the volumetric stocking guidelines we use in PFK.

You can have 7 inches of fish. Read this for some ideas for small tanks, helped me choose.
