Oily Film On Top Of 2Ft Tank.

This is strange. There's a thin oily film on the water surface of my 2ft tank. Fish seem unaffected and all water stats are fine. I skim it off and next day it's back. Is it from fish food or frozen food? Yet isn't on any of my other tanks.

it could be an algal bloom
or it could be food breaking down
but that would give you a nitrate
reading i have seen it be for
agitate the surface of the water
and that normally breakes it up

if its a planted tank in the plants dumping stuff into the water column. If you've just started dosing C02 and ferts then it should go away soon. However if you not dosing either reducing lighting (time AND strength) or start dosing C02 and Ferts

Hi. Only have plastic plants and no light at all except a tall lamp near the tank in the evenings to see the fish. Haven't dosed anything.

hi, as said, more surface agitation from the filter will break it up.

Probably excess proteins/fat from your fish food. Nothing to worry about, just aim your filter outlet a little more towards the water surface and that will keep it from forming.
