I have set up my small tank, by using tap water, and have turned on the heater and filter and it has been cycling for a week now, with no fish in it,

But on the surface of the water there is like a thin layer of oil/greese/jelly not sure what it is does any one know what it is? and how to get rid of it?

What are your water stats? Ammonia, Nitrite, Temp

What kind of rocks are you using and what is in your tank.....i.e. decor, plants etc?

Did you use any cleaners on the tank?

Have not tested for nitrates ect yet.

temperature is 26

there is nothing in the tank no gravel or anything just the glass tank.

cleaned out with tap water only.

I can check nitrates and levels if needed.

Hi welcome to the forum

Are you doing a fishless cycle (see pinned topics) if not the tank won't be cycling as there is no ammonia source. Just asking as a lot of people don't know about cycling :) Not sure what may have caused the film but you can remove it by folding a piece of kitchen roll/towel and dragging it across the surface of the water.

Yes it is a fishless cycle, not sure where these pinned topics are to read up on, i have basically cleaned the tank with water, added water and the filter and heater and left it to run for a week was fine for a few days but then last couple days a jelly surface was on the water.
