Oh No!

I've just walked into town to do some shopping and got a few more rummy noses on my way back. It's only a 5 minute walk but the water was freezing by the time I've got in.

One of them is lying on its side. I thought it was dead but it appeared to start breathing when I put the bag into my tank.

It's still breathing and on its side 10 minutes on.

Is it likely to recover or will it die?

EDIT: wooohooo! it's up and swimming. Must of literally got them into the tank on time

Congrats, sounds like it was a close call. And a good warning to anyone thinking of transporting fish in these temperatures.

I generally wear a button down flannel shirt in colder weather. It's easy to undo a couple of buttons, fit in a bag or two, then button it up. I look a little goofy but the fish stay warm.

lol just made me think what if someone bumps into you and pops a bag, there face would be priceless :lol:

if you have a cool bag/box use that will keep them niceand warm :good:

I got my Betta yesterday and it was very cold. Now I only had to walk from the store to the car then the car to my house, but still. I can't believe I didn't even think of that when I went in to get him. Good thing I had my down coat on, I did just what the person above did, unzipped my coat put the bag inside and zipped back up (took him out when I got into the warm car - the seat belt could have caused some problems if I didn't :lol:

) But he was fine, definitely a good warning for people to have some sort of transportation plan when buying fish in the cold.

. it reminds me of the time i ordered my golden nugget from wildwoods online to be delivered last winter . the courier came i excitedly opened the box up and there it was stiff as a board almost as if it had rigormortis. so i put the bag in the tank anyway 5 mins later no life so i rang them up to say it arrived dead when it suddenly came to life.

Fortunatly my trusted store is a good 25mins drive, so the car is nice and warmed when I get there. As long as I am not too long the car will still be warm when I get back.

I just have to remember to make sure I don't put them in the footwell with the heating blasting on them. It would be ironic if they ended up getting too hot >.<
