Can someone please tell me what this is? This is my first live planted tank & the first time i've used mopani wood so i just want to rule out any sort of the dreaded algae.

Whilst inspecting the tank - i noticed this white fur like stuff (very slight, but it doesnt take much for me to worry :p )- my fish are pecking at it too. Is it normal, or do i need to buy a treatment to shift it - if so can someone please point me in the right direction of removing it . thanks :)

All my levels are normal, but i'm not 100% if my algae eaters been out yet since i put him in the new aquarium - which is also worrying me, i know hes alive as ive seen him move in the cave - but ive caught my fish eating his algae flakes!

Anyway heres the pics of the fur like substance

oooh shoot didn't read your post, ummm what white stuff. I don't see anything. Probably food thats just uneated and growing fungus.

lol look on the very right curved edge of the mopani wood - its like a white fur

Doubt its algae, got to rush, but did you boil the wood first, looks like fungus to me!
I'd get it out get it boiled and treat it and the tank with an anti-fungal treatment....
Dunno not great on such things, gotta run.
You'll normally get brown algae as the first algal build up in your new tank...

Yes it was soaked for 2 days in very hot water - then boiled (got a bollocking for using the best pan hehe) and stood again for 12 hours before putting in the tank.

I'll look into the anti fungal treatment this weeked :)

Thnaks for your advice - in boths of my posts - legend :good:

Its slime mould. Its generally poor wood and usually the start of the wood rotting.
