I have just found all of 3 of my geos tapajos dead :(
All I've done this week is a 20% water change, added 2 bits of wood from aquatic online store and added 2 amazon swords, I haven't added any new fish
I've just tested the water, everything is fine, I am stumped, they have no wounds at all

gutted! usual questions I guess, whats the Ph any spikes? Has your tap water smelt off a bit at all? Do you have sand substrate? Even fine gravel can get jamed in their gills or gravel gets stuck in mouths and they choke? Would be odd if that was for all 3.

Hiya Wills, the pH is the same, just tested it, tap water is fine and was conditioned anyway, yep have sand substrate, as you say would be weird for all 3 to die, oh this is awful :( I hate wipeouts, but with the other fish all being fine, it does beg questions doesn't it

How were they looking the last time you saw them and over the last few days? Have they been eating ok? Pooing ok? You havent had them long have you, so maybe they had something when they came to you?

They've been really fine, very active, eating, sifting through the sand and very colourful, one of life's mysteries I guess, it happened to some boesemani's I had once, all 3 females died the same day

Did they all come from the same shop? and PLEEEEEEASE don't say boesmani's are sensetive??I'm planning a 6ft community based on them! :S

I don't know! It was a freak thing, they happen, I just don't know, I hate freak things :(

Just a thought what is your Nitrate reading? I know not too many people test these that often I know I hardly ever do but it is the thing that can fluctuate in your tap water the most and of course the only thing the filter cant sort out. Geos can be susceptible to it at times but if it was that killed them I would be a bit confused why it didnt effect your other fish?

Wills I think I might have figured it out

Yesterday when my gigantic amazon swords arrived, I left them floating on the surface overnight and planted them today.
When I planted them today (when I found the dead geos) I noticed that the spray bar had slipped a bit and there wasn't much surface agitation, so perhaps it was an oxygen issue and because the swords were covering most of the surface they couldn't get enough air?
Although I don't know why it wouldn't affect the other fish, especially the cories?

I usually have the spray bar JUST under the surface so there is a bit of agitation, I've now siliconed the suckers into place with that gold label stuff so the suckers can't slip

I bought an Eheim 2217 a few weeks and I've been having trouble getting everything to sit right with all the parts they provide, because I didn't get a shepherds crook for the outlet, it's really hard getting the outlet hose to sit right (going over the back of the tank, then using little piddly bits of tube and plastic corners etc.) the getting the whole thing to sit right at the side of the tank, when Allan (from John Allan) came over he was absolutely shocked that I had no shepherds crook with the kit
