It's been almost a year since my first discus. My PB who I got at the lfs at 2". He was skinny and sad looking when I got him. he is now almost 5" and full of color. He is such a great fish. Disco stue is his name. He let's me pet him. I was doing a wc tonight and he was picking at my hand. So I would slowing put it near him and almost picked him up. I had a few other of my discus nip at me and swim around. They are so cute. They all eat from my hand too. They are pets not just fish.

Do you ever look at your fish and think "gosh I love my fish." I know I am corny. I am hooked on my discus.

Lol, i have a common plec that used to eat at the surface and used to let me touch him during it

Recently bought a german blue ram (3cm'ish) too who was so scared of me until recently,
i had to seperate him to get him to eat (internal parasites ) and he'd only eat out of my hand,
now that he's back in the tank he's always at the glass and isnt a slight bit scared now

Cant say the same for my green terrors though, he's just plain evil to me and me only! :grr:

I'm glad you can admit it, they say admitting your obsession's the first step to recovery

You do have some pretty fish, i want more discus

Ive watched star stroke the belly of her large plec. Ive not got overly attached to anything myself.

haha thanks. None of my other fish I have ever been as tame as my discus. They are such cool fish. It almost a game with my fish when my hand is in the tank. They nip me then I touch them.

Any other people have fish that are very tame. What are they and what do they do?

Lol well i shall not admit it then, seeing as i don't want to be any closer to a cure for my fishy obesession!

I had a whiptail cat that had a habbit of sticking to my arm during maintenance, which was kind of a pain when it came to taking your arm out the water and he didnt want to let go. Fish can be daft. I have an Oscar currently who is by no means tame, but he's getting there. Eats out of my hand, slowly working on getting him tamer, although i have no intentions of ever making contact with him deliberatly. I don't believe in such things.

I am also a discus nut.

I love mine too. They're so interesting and clever. The pack of youngsters I used to have knew exactly what times I fed them, and if I was a few minutes late they would take turns trying to get my attention. All of them but one would group up and stare at me, and then the one would launch up and whack the glass canopy while the others watched to see if they'd gotten my attention. If I ignored them still, another would take a turn at it, and then another, until I gave in and got the worms. Funny fish.

Mine are pretty tame too, though I don't touch them very often. Occasionally I stroke their heads with a finger, but I don't want them to get too used to it because then they hang around and get in your way when you're mucking around in the tank. There's always something interesting going on with them though. Right now I have a female (I think) ready to spawn who is entertaining two males and can't seem to decide between them.

That is a great story about the fish getting your attention. They really are pets. I don't touch them all the time. I know I made it sound like I am a crazy fish petter haha. It started when I was trying to get a good idea of how big they were with out netting them. So I was putting my hand as close as I could then they kept nipping me so I touched them back.
