So Ive had my two T.Aureus for a few weeks now, both settled very well in the tank, very active, feeding really well.

Ive noticed today, that both have suddenley developed this vertical almost black banding all over their bodies, from the tips of their noses to the start of the tails, its like they have been painted with circles going around them. Both have suddenly started chasing the severums and nicaraguans whenever they come near them too, which isnt normal as they have been very peaceful til now, if anything its the others that have chased them.

They wont leave each other's sides either. Now I assumed they were both male.

EDIT: OH MY GOD - THEY HAVE SPAWNED IN A COCONUT CAVE AND ARE DEFENDING THE EGGS FOR ALL THEY ARE WORTH!!!!!!

PICS TO FOLLOW

Awww... congrats hun.... look forward to pics :)

Pics of the fish, cant get a pics of the eggs, but there are about 50-100 eggs and they are a nice cream colour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no clue what to do now, obviously they are protecting them, but for how long they can manage with the sevs, nics, corys, ghost etc in the tank Ive no idea, I dont have another tank to move them to, which at this stage isnt a good idea, but now I need a new tank for them only!!!

There is a 33g up for sale near me, big enough for a breeding pair you think???

Im so happy right now :)

Thanks Mark :)

She is laying still more eggs :hyper:

I need another tank & fast.

Those fish are stunning, congratulations! - am currently thinking about a centerpiece for my tank atm and I get that must have feeling every time I see these :)

I know thats my concern, hence why Im hunting ebay, AC, here, everywhere for another tank, this spawn probably wont make it, but in their own tank they stand a very good chance.

Hmmm yeah, thought of that, cant find anything to divide with as yet.

Just ordered new tank, whoops, there goes the budget again :D

It was an accident, I didnt mean to press the confirm order button - Honest :D

Anyway, this morning, loads more eggies, Mum is now almost permanently inside the cave, fanning furiously, whilst Dad patrols the area, trouble is everytime I go near to look, they both come out to say 'hello' to me as they always do  I keep shouting, no, go back, defend those eggies!

Just occured also, that its a long weekend, therefore this new tank isnt going to get here until near the end of next week, eggs will have hatched and be free swimming by then, dont know if they can keep the others off that long, fingers crossed.

I fear for the safety of my corydoras, they are taking a hammering now, anytime one goes within a foot of the cave, they get attacked.

On a brighter note, its nice to the firemouth getting his comeuppance, he usually chases them constantly, now they are sending him flying around the tank
