I have done a terrible thing. You know when you see something and go "I want"? well I did exactly that.

I was at my local pet shop dropping off the last of my malawi fish as I have closed down my big tank and now have two small tanks, when I saw an amazing little betta fish.

I had been thinking of getting a betta for a while but I just had to have him. I dont usually like plakats but I think this is what he is.

So took him home and put him in with my bristlenose juvies. Is he going to be alright with them? He seems to be okay at the moment. but I have not a CLUE what to feed him! I have some flakes from the malawi fish but im wary about feeding him the wrong thing.

Im not usually this dum but obviously I was a sucker for those colours and did not do my research before hand.

Please help me get up to speed. Pictures to follow
Thanks
Liza

I am new to bettas two. I have had mine for only two weeks now. They need high protein food, at least over 40%. Probably the New Life Spectrum if you can afford it. They like blood worms a lot.
Mine didn't seem interested in anything for the first week but now he has deffinately settled. He eats anything I put in the tank which includes flakes, blood worms, 3 types of cory wafers, algae wafers, cucumber, zucchini and peas. He hasn't found the broccoli piece I put in the tank as it's hanging on the glass but by the looks of it he won't be long eating that too. I hadn't realised they are such pigs. He was quite funny tearing parts of the cucumber, using the strength of his body to pull a piece

Welcome to the world of betta's, mine eat anything that enters the tank so don't worry about what to feed him XD
Mine get Tetra Pro Menu and Tetramin flakes daily and Bloodworm, Brine Shrimp or Daphnia once or twice a week. Soon to be adding some Tetra Prima Mini Granules to their diet too :)

I have a load of new life spectrum & frozen foods left over from the malawis so he will be set for life.

He is going to be SO spoilt!

He fits right in. I have a springer with no brains and now I have a betta who chases his own shadow...and that is his name....shadow.

And here he is....

He cost me £7.

Is that a good thing?

I know he is probably not rare or anything but I liked him as he has these black specks on his fins and he had attitude!
Im not sure I paid under or over the odds for him either, just curious.

Can you you get full tailed bettas who are dragons?

Yeah it is :) I'm not sure where you are but it's rare to find Dragon Scale Halfmoon Plakats round here XD
How much did you pay for him? Yeah you can get full tailed Dragon Scales, it basically mean they have thicker body scaling than normal betta's :)

Oh right. Thanks for the info. They had afew of the same at the pet shop but he was the best of them.
Im in somerset, near taunton.
I paid £7 for him.

Ive also found the website finz and tailz, and oh my are those big eared bettas nice.

Nah £7's not too bad for him eh?
Yeah, Finz & Tailz... Got some gorgeous betta's in :)

Helli new betta owners, there really isn't a specific good betta or bad betta. It all depends on a personal preference. They are all unique and great in there own way.

I agree. My bettas feast on leaf hoppers every summer. I'm from the counryside by the way. Leafhoppers are pestd to crops.
