I just bought some Hikari Frozen Daphnia from the LFS, as it was on sale. I have read that live Daphnia is a good food in general, but I don't have any green water or a culture for that matter. I Just tried feeding it to my White Clouds, Ember Tetras and Danios, and they ate it right up. As did my new little Betta. What's the nutritional value on this? Am I basically feeding them a "laxative?" Futhermore, what is a good frozen alternative to fresh? (I've done Brine Shrimp, Blood Worms) I would love to start my own cultures, but I want to wait until I'm done with school and I have my own place to set up what I please. Thanks!

Any info would be great! Thanks! :good:

I have a feeling they arent great but I cant say for definite.

My pygmy cories love the frozen daphnia, but I use it as a treat because I don't know about the actual nutritional value.

I'd have thought they wouldn't lose too much nutritional value being frozen.. Although live is better than frozen, frozen is much better than dried foods, which tend to cause bloating a little easier if fed too often or too much.

You aren't feeding them a laxative by giving them Frozen daphnia, but you are giving them quite a rich meaty food. I wouldn't give it to them every day, once or twice a week is about right.
