Hi, my tanks C02 has been running since sunday now and yesterday the ladder had some mucus type stuff at the bottom of it, but the bubbles were still comeing through OK, so i cleared them off, but the bubbles clogged, and so it took a couple of hours for the ladder to function normally again. Its happened again today, and i havent cleaned it, just to see what people would reccomend, because i lose a couple of hours worth of C02, and i dont really want to be cleaning it every day anyway, what can i do?

Thanks alot, Mike

The white mucus that gathers at the bottom is perectly normal. We dont know as of yet if its harmful for certain but it so far doesnt pose a problem.
Did you clean the entire ladder? Or just the end of the tubing where it connects to the ladder?
Cleaning the entire ladder would result in it taking a few days to work again. If you just pull of the mucus on the end of the tubing then you shouldnt really get clogging.

Yeah, I wonder what the hell that snotty stuff is.

I also wonder if you get it from 'normal' CO2 from a bottle... and hence wonder if this snot is something to do with the fact that the CO2 is produced by yeast....

It's definetly has something to do with fermentation. I dont get it on my diffuers that are used with pressurized CO2.

Ok thanks RadaR, ill just pull it off then.
Theres also some crap in the piping, so i reckon thats from the fermentation too...

Thanks, Mike

You could get a bubble counter like this one here.

They also have them for sale on Aqua Essentials site but i cant seem to get on it right now. I use them on both my tanks and seems to clean the co2 before it gets into the tank so you dont need to clean as often :)
