In need of some help....

recently a got 3 pandas, had whitespot so treated but 2 still died, so got another 2 but they all died off so gave up with the pandas as i know theyre sensitive fish so instead bought some Rasporas but now have white spot again but after a few treatments it just wont shift!! I've even turned my heater up a bit as this speeds up the parasite to drop off but it just wont shift!!

also, I'm gettin quite a bit of brown algae which i thought was due to a replacement bulb - the original sun glo one went so i changed it for one which makes blues and green stands out, but after getting a lot of brown algae i thought it could be to do with the bulb so i bought a sun glo one again but the algae still came back.

water stats for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all good, as for ph's and stuff i only have the litmus type stick which all show in the ok/safe zone (i'd buy proper testing but its very expensive).

please see my signature for tank size, how many fish etc

here is some pictures of the tank with close ups:

many thanks in advance

nope ive never had the charcoal filter. its a fluval 2 plus with 2 sponge pads and a polyester pad to filter out the smaller particles.

treatment has always been carried out after a partial (approx 20%) water change, but then the following treatment was put in without a water change.

we've had whitespot before with the original pandas and it went within less than a week.

as far as we can see its only 1 raspora that has it but it just wont shift.

thanks

can you isolate this one fish and ttreat seperately so as not to infect the others

not unless we buy an extra tank etc!!! we first treated it and the white spot seem to reduce and then the second treatment was added after that a few other fish got it so its had a second treatment and the white spot on the raspora is clearer than ever they just seemed to have reduced in size!!!

just cant understand why the treatment is not working!!!

How long has the tank been set up.
How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Waters stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Corys are not prone to whitespot.
Whitespot looks like the fish has been sprinkled in salt.
What med are you using. Are you using full dose.

Hi,

tank has been set up since about November 2008,
its a 60litre elite tank
16 fish which is at the top end of how many fish i can keep
all water stats normal and ok

the med is anti whitespot and using full dose for size of the tank

Have you raised temp to 30.
Is your tank near direct sunlight.
How long do you have tank lights on.
How often do you maintain tank.

my heater is set to 26 and rougly reads 27-28 on the thermometer at the opposite side of the tank.
its away from direct sunlight
tank lights come on about 3:00pm and go off about 10:30pm
tank is given a partial water change once a week and has glass cleaned etc etc

You need to raise temp to 30. So turn heater up more.

Do you preform a gravel vac during a water change.

i'm a bit weary of turning my heater up so much

i have sand so cant gravel vac it, but i have a vac which attaches to an air pump which sucks up the crap on top of the sand

You need to raise temp. Fish can cope as long as there plenty of aeration.
Summer months when my tanks temp goes up sometimes to 30, you just increase aeration and the fish are fine.

A link to whitespot.
