I have a new tank set up which was running without fish for 2 weeks.....i then added danios and a week later (last thurs) added some little neon tetra.
All are doing fine, eating, swimming, schooling when the danios aren't getting in their way and confusing them.
However one neon is paler than the rest and the colour seems faded and a bit blotchy, not white, more like transparent like it's lost colour, and mostly along the grey along it's back......I have been reading about NTD and fake NTD, and have seen pictures, but it isn't white like NTD, and it's not all in one place below the dorsal fin, it's just sort of patchy loss of colour.
I've read stress can cause colour loss in neons where they go more transparent, and seeing as they have only been in the tank for 3 days, could this be a likely explanation? And of course they have had the danios being rather nosy at them (but not harming them).

Any ideas....should I be panicking more....would a possible pH problem cause fading?

I would just put down to stress, how many in the shoal? and what are your pH levels hardness etc remember its a new tank could it just be a case of new tank syndrome?

there are 5, the other 4 are fine colour wise.
the pH was a little high before the 25% water change i did in the day before they went in and i am keeping an eye on it, as i have a feeling it might be that.

thanks for the advice :good:

I am pleased to announce that whichever tetra was blotchy....must now be fine as i can't tell which one it was.
I have sorted the pH now, and all my other levels are fine....it must as you said have been a case of new tank syndrome for the poor little guy, but alas....all is well now :)

roll on betta day!

Bad lfs advice neon tetra are not for a new tank that has to cycle they need mature tanks.
Glad he's back to his normal colour.
