I picked up a 'clean water small aquarium filter' from a pet store today. It says It stabilizes pH and reduces algae ^_^
Its like a large tea bag in appearance, and it can be placed in aquarium pumps, or directly in water. I want to put it in my pump, so does this mean taking out the sponge and replacing it with this? or putting both in at the same time?

Hate to say it Jake but stabilizing pH chemically is -not- something you want to do and anything in a tea bag is not going to deal with algae!

I agree with waterdrop. What is your current pH reading in your tank, for your tap water and what fish are you keeping? Most fish can readily adapt to a pH that is outside their optimal range. Stability is much more important than the actual number. I've also never heard of any filter than can stabilize the pH unless it has some type chemical in it and even at that, how do they know which way you need to move the pH, up or down? Items that will raise you pH do no good f you need to lower it and vice versa.
