Hi all.

Hope you can help me. I've been out of the fishekeeping game for around 10 years and i've decided its about time I got back into it.

I'm starting relatively small and have a 60 litre tank i'm currently cycling.

What I'd like help with is the usual really - what fish should I put in the tank to ensure it is a success?

I definitely want some sort of plec in there and i'm a big gourami fan. I'm not interested in guppies, tetras etc so I know I'm restricting the number of fish I can keep by going for the larger species.

Any help would be very much appreciated

1 bristlenose plec, dwarf gourami, honey gourami, or maybe a moonlight gourami, something like harlequins would be good, stock at 1 inch per gallon dude

Well, 1" per gallon is not a rule, more an actual guideline  It's a good one to stick to with a newly set-up tank with community fish in though :good:

How are you cycling and what are the tank dimentions? (I know the first question seems silly, but too many people think letting the tank sit empty adding nothing or some majic "bacteria in a bottle" that doesn't work is "cycling" )

All the best

I'm using the "add & wait" method for my cycling - i'm looking for another month or so before i put any fish in, most likely towards the end of April.

The dimensions are 24" wide, 15" high, 12" deep.

I was thinking something like a bristlenosed plec, golden gourami, 3 spot gourami and red honey gourami (what sex of gouramis would be best?)

Any thoughts really appreciated. :good:

Cheers

p.s. i'm relatively new to the area so does anyone know of a reliable fish supplier in the south manchester area?

The Honey Gouramis would be "at risk" with their more boiserous cousins in there, in the form of the Gold and Opaline Gouramis. IMO, the tank is a tad small for the latter two also. Honey Gourami don't need any specific male to female ratios, they always seem to get along fine regardless  If you add the Opalines or Golds, you want only one male across both species or you will loose a few to fighting  The males are teritorial IME.

Honey Gourami and Bristlenoses are a bit delicate and will do best in a mature tank  Is there anything else you like the look of that could go in while you get the tank matured?

Glad to hear you know about how to cycle properly :hyper: :good: That makes a lot of us regulars very relieved

All the best
