I have a male betta who has been in the tank for 2 weeks now, he has very long fins compared to all the others in the shop, does this mean he is older?
His behaviour varies between swimming around like a nutter and sometimes he is quite 'mellow' just chilling out. He also likes to hang around the top of the tank around the filter and heater and often sleeps on top of the thermometer (like lying over it).
He seems quite happy all in all, ive just not had a betta before and i'd appreciate it if anyone who keeps them could read this and tell me if this is fairly normal behaviour for them?
Cheers, Jo

P.S he wouldnt eat flake food so i had to introduce bloodworms and brine shrimp (both frozen) to their diet, he loves the bloodworms but not keen on the shrimp - normal?

Normal! :shout:

There's only one thing I'd like to add...make sure your heater isn't too warm. He could hurt his fins or even his body lying on the heater. I have a betta that curls up like a little dog and sleeps in the plants or the sponge on the sponge filter. They like to rest like that. Good luck with your betta! They're great fish to have.

I am new to Bettas. I have 2, one is very active and the other one just curises & blows bubbles. Thats ok then? They dont have to be active all the time...
