Nonfish People

a post on here reminded me of the time my cousin was chatting on the phone, she said to the other person 'i must go ive got to clean the fish' and promptly carried on chatting for another half hour. her young son had overheard her and taken it upon himself to clean them. he popped into the kitchen and tipped a scoop full of washing powder into the water! sad to say the fish croaked. was a goldfish she had had since her teenage years but her son in all honesty was trying to help. my other half can also be very 'helpful' he brought home about 3 weeks worth of blood worm and dumped it all in the tank in one go. my greedy molly ate so many they were coming out the other end still alive!

Me: Dad, I've got to go out and pick Mum up, she's missed the bus - can you rinse that playsand for me so I can put it in my tank when I get home? It needs cleaning really well, it'll be dusty. Actually, if I'm not back by the time you've done it, can you put it in for me?

Dad: No problem at all!

*Dad reads bag of sand and sees the words 'ready-washed', decides it's must be fine, and tips it in*.

I get home.

Two 99% water changes later:

And the moral is....etc.

omg! lol bet your dad felt bad! everyone in my house is banned from doing anything for my fish. too many cooks.. etc

He was so annoyed because it meant wasting even more water to rinse it in the tank - the dust just didn't end, it took TWO DAYS to get it clear like in my sig! But I took great delight in dishing out a well deserved "I told you so", so it was sort of worth it.

well i guess he learned his lesson! sig is beautiful by the way. very clean design, you'd never know!

Had a very similar one to the first actually...

Answered the phone at work and had a very distraught customer ring me up in a panic to ask what to do and if we had any mature media she could have because her 4 year old daughter managed to 'clean the fish tank' after she managed to get through child locks.... poured a bottle of bleach into the tank >.<

Thankfully the she realised what the kid had done in seconds and removed the fish, put them in clean dechlorinated tapwater and put a few drops of melafix in there....

Jeees.... the entire tank survived too! and the kidgot the biggest telling off stood very quietly with eyes down the whole time. About right.

bleach! what a helpful child lol dont you just love em. my 2 year old acts like the fish dont even exist, maybe thats a good thing
