I think my hermits might have eaten my mexican turbo snail. I was moving my cuc today and found his empty shell but none of the hermits have taken the shell. The hermits are only small i have 2 red i bought and (a red) and (a black and white) that hitchhiked. The snail was massive and the hermits are only small. They don't seem to have attacked the 2 smaller Astraea Snails.

Also how do i fine tune my mce600 when i can't see the bubble chamber as it's on the back of the tank. most of the gunk seems to be stuck to the sides rather than going over the top if that makes sense.

Does it matter what sand i use in sand bed in sump ?

A massive snail and small hermits pretty much means that snail has to already be on its deathbed to be harmed by the hermits. Once dead, of course, snails will be eaten by whatever scavengers exist in the tank. However, if it dissappeared quickly, a bunch of bristleworms can take a large carcas apart much faster than most small hermits can.

Can't help with the skimmer question, but as for the sand, the same standard sand considerations should still exist. Aragonite will help buffer pH/KH and the coarser it gets (like crushed coral) the more it will be prone to gunk buildup unless the substrate is constantly being churned by animals looking for food.

Not sure it does :p however, most people have the box pulled most of the way up and the air intake at one or two oclock - then check your skim, is it watery or dry, what colour is it?
