I bought an air pump as my filter doesnt seem to agitate the water much (eg food stays at the top)
I bought an elite 802 air pump says its quiet and powerful but its really noisy.
Is there anything I can do to make it quieter and slow the flow as its really fast or should I take it back

You could put it on a timer switch so that it's on when you're not around (ie at work or something); or if it has a flow control valve, adjust that. I'm sure you can buy those too.

Also, placing the filter on a soft base such as carpet helps, but you'll still get the noise it makes in the water.

Pauly.

All air pumps say they are very quiet on the box but of course not all are. I would use a piece of stiff foam rubber as a pad under the air pump. That way you would dampen some of the noise from vibrations without running the risk of overheating the pump. If you use really soft materials, it can cut down the air circulation around the air pump and cause it to get quite hot. Check the instructions that came with the pump. If you adjust the flow lower, it will usually quiet down the pump quite a bit. Lowering the flow with a valve in the air line won't help with the noise but making the pump not work as hard will.

My elite gets on my nerves, it was not bad at first but now its bad..

I changed all but 1 of my tanks to teratec pumps and cant hear nothing from them at all, great pumps and look good as well

Personally I never had luck with air pumps. Mine seemd to be noisy, change the water parameters (pH), and the tubing is ugly. May I suggest getting a filter with a higher flow rate? Or a powerhead?

Its a new tank with a fluval filter that sits under the tank.
For the past 4 weeks Ive had my old filter running in the tank which airiated the water perfectly and kept the bacteria for when my sis gets my old tank.
One of my reasons for getting the air pump was to grow baby brine shrimp to feed to my babies kribs
So basically my only option is an air pump.
I can hide the tubingso that isnt a problem its just the noise.
I was in the bath last night with 2 doors closed between us and could still hear it.

With the fluval filters (assuming its a canister) then you need to re-angle the outlet or cut the hose shorter so the outlet sits higher in the water.

The problem is I have the outlet as high as I can get it but its still about 4 inches from the top of the water so Im not getting any movement from it
