okay heres the dilema my cousin comes in and has a head ache his mother gives him two paracetomol he dumps them in my tank i realise 5 mins late and theyre all eating it, im doing a 80% WC as i type will they be okay!? theyre eating it!

Q) Why is there no aspirin in the jungle?
A) Becasue the parrots-eat-em-all.

Joking aside, I'd also add fresh carbon to the filter for a couple of days...

dunno about fish eating paracetemol really, but it's not raising any alarm bells in my mind.

Andy

my brother always drops things in my tank but luckely for me its only toy cars and things

I think you need to have a word with your cousin that you don't touch other people belongings or pets.
That he could of killed all the fish in the tank.

Heard of aspirin being used for shock.
Just water changes and hope the fish are ok.

How are the fish Truck? I would have thought any nibble paracetamol by something as small as a fish would be enough to give an overdose and be fatal :(

I'd be having very strong words with this cousin and his Mum about the potential or even actual consequences.

id see how he liked eating fish food

Paracetomol causes liver damage in large doses, I'd try and get rid of anything that's still in them with a big feed of peas to clear them out, and activated carbon!!! If there's any way of getting them to eat the carbon, it would be a very good thing. That's actually what they do to people who overdose on paracetomol - tube down the throat and pump in a big heap of activated carbon.

Dazed and twitching doesn't sound good... if it's liver failure it's incurable, you will probably end up with dropsy and if that happens I'd euthanise tbh... this sucks, I won't say what I'd do to your cousin if I were you. Is this a little kid? Cause if he's old enough to know that dumping medication in a fish tank will NOT be very good for the fish, I'd get right up him.

as laurafrog rightly says paracetamol is harsh on the liver in large doses and if you compare tablet size to body size of say a small tetra its not going to take a lot to give a large dose. a very unhelpful statement this next 1 i know but perhaps you could learn from this and if your tank is situated in a location whereby its easily tampered with by kids young enough to not fully understand things like this then maybe fitting a padlock to the lid would be a good idea .

hope your fish pull through

bad luck struck twice, my heater failed and i lost 7 fish it took my tank to 34oC last time i use juwel, so i dont know wether it was the heat or the paracetamol but it surprised me as my cousin has fish too, the little devil is having his pocket money docked to pay for the fish.
