Before anyone rants on about his tankmates, please read this thread in the Emergencies section

because it has nothing to do with his tankmates as such. They didn't cause it through stress or injury.

I am posting here to see if any betta experts have any advice on how to save him because he is now the sickest fish and I will be devastated if he goes!! I'll never be able to look at the aquarium in the same way again!

Someone PLEASE HELP!!

No answers, but just wanted to tell you I am SO sorry to read all your troubles with your tank!!!

Best of luck to you, Boris and all your other fish.

=/ take him out and put him in something tewmporary and raise the temp of his water? im sorry, but i never have any luck with bettas in large tanks. even though there was nothing to hurt my betta wally and wally the 2nd in my tank originally, both died, even though the tanks water was fine. =/ id say move him and treat him like you would an injury >.< but i really dont know what to tell you >:

I REALLY feel for you. I have just lost my Betta Aslan yesterday, and it has upset me soo much.

If your Betta is Pineconing, it is really difficult to save him, as there may well be internal damage, so even if you manage to reduce the swelling....

Bettas are different to other fish in how they react to certain meds, and I am not sure what to recommend. Salt Baths (aquarium salt) seem to be effective in some cases, but that is treating the symptoms rather than the cause. At this stage you probably don't have anything to lose. I have read a review for Esha 2000 (Practical Fish Keeping Magazine) that states that it has prolonged the life of Fish with Dropsy (but not cured).

I hope your little Betta pulls through, sorry I can not advise anything more helpful :(

I'm so sorry about your poor Boris. I might try taking him out and dosing him well with the aquarium salt then putting him in new water in his own separate container. That saved two of my fish that were near the end although they were not pineconing yet.

Good luck!

Epsom salt.... take him out in to a hospital tank, and add in dissolved epsom salt. 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons worked for me.
So sorry he's pineconing :( Dropsy happens SO quickly and sometimes unexpectedly.
If he's eating, try an internal bacterial med.
Sounds like those guppies you brought home seriously infected your tank.

Antibiotics, ammolock, epsom salts. I've posted on the other thread... sounds like columnaris, I hate that foul disease with a vengeance, lost half my breeding stock to it last year.

Thanks guys, really, but it's too late, he's gone.

The others are not good, but since this is a Betta forum, I am keeping the Emergencies thread updated, the link is at the top of the thread. Thanks to everyone and their kindness, but I fear it will get worse before it gets better :(
