I haven't had any gravel in my 10g setup ever. It's been up for maybe a month. For awhile it was at 8.0+ but the past few weeks its been stuck at 2.0 and I can't lower it. Is this because I don't keep gravel or anything on the bottom?

Well gravel and sand do hold some beneifcial bacteria, What fish do you have in the tank, whats your other readings in nitrite, nitrate.

No, lack of gravel shouldnt make any difference. I take it you are doing a fishless cycle on it? What is the ammonia from your tap?

Fish are in it, they've been in it for awhile. From the tap I get 0 reading

A nitrite and nitrate reading would help, and what type of fish.

if this is the tank with the oscar, jewel, firemouth, red devil, etc then the ammonia is not coming down because of how over stocked it is!

Good god is this true.

He's in a tank with a small oscar, firemouth, red devil, and texas cichlid

sorry, here is what is in it, the "he" that is being referred to is a crayfish. this is all a ten gallon tank, and you wonder why the ammonia is so high...you tossed all these fish into an uncycled tank. when people offered help, you didnt follow it.

First off, thank you to everyone who tried to help and not flame.
Secondly plecoguy, thats not even the right things. On another note, that crayfish is gone from my home, the firemouth I found a new home. The texas cichlid is in another tank with a pink convict he paired up with. In that 10g you're talking about right now is a small red devil, oscar, jag, and jewel. Yes its over stocked, they're not my fish, I'm just trying to help them, they belong to my room mate. They all get along, right now atleast. Yesterday I bought these fish a new tank, these fish I don't even own. It's only a 55g but for them at this size right now it's going to be much better until we can find them all homes locally. I'm just cycling it before moving them into it, who knows maybe they'll all have new homes before then. I do want to keep the oscar, who I've been told will be fine in a 55g.

Third, next time you feel the urge to be an ass and flame like that make sure you're info is upto date, alot has changed in the past 2 weeks where you copied that old post from. I wasn't going to just let them sit in there and die.

If there's any ammonia in the water, you should do a 30% water change with dechlorinator imediatly(continue doing water changes, but try not to take out more than 60% of water a day)- cycling a tank with fish can take months before the water quality is stable you see, so the ammonia problems are most likely from that- do you have any tests for nitrites?

I've been doing daily 20% changes. Nitrities always come back between 0 and .25

Give the fish to a local shop, it's the best thing for them. Basically it's like keeping you locked in a bath, flushing out all your waste once a day... Not great for the fish really.
