I use the API test kits. I've just started dosing nitrates tonight and set up my stock solution so that 1ml of solution would ad 0.1ppm nitrates to my 350 litre (approx) tank volume. When I tested the water after dosing my test kit read over 40ppm! It shouldn't have really registered anything as the first graduation on the colour chart was 10ppm.
Anyone got any recommendations as to a decent, low range test kit?

PS
I set up my stock solution using Chuck's Planted Aquarium Calculator (55g of KNO3 in 1 litre of water).

I bought the Rea Sea kit this weekend. It only measures down to 2.5ppm though. Never mind, it'll do.
Some initial signs of the BGA receeding, although nothing conclusive yet. Plnats appear to be pearling a bit more though.
I'm still geting deformed leaves appearing on my Hygro though. Any ideas?

Most likely a iron defficiency, a lot of the faster growing plants suffer from this problem, do you use any root fertilisers?

There are a number of root tabs dotted around the place but they are most probably exhausted by now. I'll stick in another load that I have waiting to be used. I suppose an iron deficiency will explain very light green leaves too?

Pale coloured leaves are a prime example of iron deficiency. Try looking for a root tablet fertiliser that has a high iron content and replace them at least every 6 weeks. A good liquid fertiliser added once or twice a week will also help.

Thanks for that info. The root tabs will be going in this Friday during weekly maintenance. Might invest in an iron test kit too some time when I'm less skint!
