The most popular number i've seen written about is 20ppm of nitrites for german blue rams but thats not from my own experience. I don't really test for nitrate much.

How're the fish doing? I've been overdosing TPN+ and easycarbo for a while now and my bolivian rams (although more hardy) and other fish are seemingly in good condition. 30% w/c change a week. I'd probably do more than that if I had GBRs though.

Hi,

I hope you mean Nitrates!

The fish are doing much better thanks. I've been treating the tank with Waterlife Sterazin which treats body and gill flukes. Ever since dosing this the male and female GBR no longer scratch themselves on ornaments and the last remaining Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish (out of 5! Yes I said 5!) has a really good appetite and no signs of gill inflamation and no gasping at the surface. All of the Black Neon Tetras have sailed through these problems without once flinching.

I'm in the process of a fishless cycle for my QT aquarium so i'll be sure to treat any new Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish stock in it as i'm now anxious that they are a bad omen.

With regards to plant fertilizers, I've been told to stop using them all. I'm not sure why but there you go..

How are you doing with your tank??

haha yeah, nitrates...

Sounds good. Glad things are better, hope it stays that way for you!

My tanks doing well, fish are growing, plants are growing, no feeding problems or anything, pretty easy to maintain... so pretty happy. just want another tank now

Oh right, what size are you going for and presumably you're going to put tropicals in there? I'm getting used to tropical fish now but I've got to say, cold water are still my favourite. The fish in my pond (Koi) never become ill and they will out live my Rams by 30-50 years!

I'd like to get some more cichlids and also I want to get chocolate gouramis.... It won't happen for atleast a couple of years unless my parents get a tank!

We have koi and what not but I much prefer the tropicals :p

Awesome. I'm sure you'll do well. Maybe you should try stocking it with German Blue Rams. Some of the colours they produce are fantastic, and it seems the brighter the colours they produce, the more happy and active they are so it's easy to spot if theres anything upsetting them because they go really pale lol.

Only down side is the fact that they live for only 3 years and a lot of people fail to understand that they are a sensitive species which results in them losing them after only a few weeks.

Mark.
