 Hello, on a whim I decided to check the Nitrate level of my tap water as it is always at 40 and I hear the best thing is to get it to 0, I was shocked to discover that the tap water read at 40 anyway!

So am I being a bit thick or is that high for tap water? Am expecting posts back saying that is correct and that the natural filteration process removes the Nitrate, don't worry about offending me just reply back with "yes your thick!"

xxx

YOU ARE SO THICK!!!!!!!

Lol just joking :)

I tested my tap readings last night, and they were
PH 7.0
AMONIA 0.15
NITRITE 0
NITRATE 20

So, nah I dont think thats too bad mate, Ive read on here a few people get fairly high nitrate readings..

Im starting a fishless cycle when my ex700 arrives, (hopefully tomorrow), but ive still got a lot of homework to do.

Good luck anyways!

:D

Ha ha, no worries, thankgod I am not thick...was worried for a minute. Makes you wonder what the Nitrate does to us though, explains the whitespot I keep getting on my arms!
:D

well i don't know if thats normal or not however my tap water nitrates are 20. :)

I wonder if it has anything to do with the pipework to your house, crickey that means if Nitrate is caused by fish waste that my tap water has some form of waste in it....thats disgusting!

From what I hae read on this forum, high nitrates in tap water seems to be a pretty common thing in the UK with 20 to 40 ppm being more the norm than the exception.

Im in the UK, and my tap water barely has any nitrates in it - only just registers with the master test kit.

Maybe thats why I find it quiet easy to keep my tanks reading under 10 :good:

showoff :p

Its more the amonia 0.15ppm the tap water has in it

I know its not a concern, but, im sorry, drinking someones used condom juice in my tea does not sound like a good pastime

If you live around London then 40ppm straight from the tap is pretty normal and in the summer when water usage is greater this can rise to 70ppm and maybe more as it is recycled and put back in the mains faster.

Remember every glass of tapwater you drink has already been through 7 people before you drink it

thanks for that cfc

our tap water has 0 nitrate, very lucky here

Ok, so we are all now rushing off to check our tap water.

We don't drink ours, not posh or anything but the bottled stuff does 'taste' better.

Up untill I realised that you do water changes more than once a month (sorry, I'm a changed person nowadays :good: ) I used to buy the RO water from the LFS. Now I do both tanks at least once a week it threatened my beer money :hey: so I am at the mercy of the LWB (Local Water Board)

Glad to report that down here in south Hampshire Ammonia 0.0......NitrIte 0.0......NitrAte 10

So..........what was that scum on my morning cuppa

Ha ha, its all disgusting and now I converted you all to Evain bottled water! The readings for London are high aren't they, would be interested to see the readings per region, I am in Lincolnshire and its 40 for the Nitrate xxx

Thats all very gross, esp the condom juice comment   . The nitrate levels in my tap water is 0.00 but the nitrate levels in the mineral water I am using instead of tap is 20.
