my nitrate has been up at about 40 for a while now, the ammonia and nitrite are 0.

should i do more water changes? i am currently doing one a week of 30ltrs from my 190ltr tank

i am feeding blood worms then the next day flake on a rotation as my denisonii and frogs will only eat the blood worm, could i be over feeding?

Yes, quite easily possible, in which case water changes won't help.

On the other hand, if your tap nitrate is lower, water changes will help.. but 40 ppm is not shockingly high, just higher than I like to see.

If you have high tap nitrates, NitraZorb or suchlike could be a long term solution.

I wouldn`t think you need to do more water changes but I would be happier doing 50 litres (25%)

You have nothing to worry about - 40 is ok. Just make sure you do a thorough gravel vac once a week when you do a water change.
