Hi guys

I have an empty Juwel Rio 180 tank and last night I followed directions I found in this forum to remove the internal filter. I got the filter off ok but then I hit two problems.

1) I stupidly used a sponge scourer to try and remove the glue that was left on the glass. I did this on two of the side glue spots and it worked eventually. However, I have noticed a sort of cloudy circular mark around the area where I was scrubbing at the glue. I am assuming I have scratched the glass and I am wondering what I can do to fix this as the scratched area is on the inside.

2) How do I go about getting the glue off the other spots? I have tried using a wooden spatula as suggested elsewhere and I am too scared of using a razor blade. Do any solvents exist that would help?

TIA

use a stanley knife blade. you've just gotta not be scared but be careful i'm afraid!

yep stanley knife blade that's what i used on my tank, hold the blade flat and slowly work your way down the glass, my have to use the corner of the blade, for the stubbon bit. but that's the way i did it. (always go downwards the glass and keep hand and finger out the way) don't use any solvents you don't know what that will do if it gets on the wrong place and then you gotta make sure you get it all off before you put any fish in or they will most likely die.

OK, I bit the bullet and had a go with a stanley knife. I managed to get off the vast majority of the black glue stuff, but there is still a thin disc of glue remaining on each of the spots where the filter was fixed. I have even angled the blade slightly (as much as I dare) and still can't get it off. I have an algae scraper that looks similar to the material of the sponge that I used before, maybe that will work without scratching? Or maybe the key point is that you normally use the scraper when it is under water, and that is why the sponge scratched before as I didn't have it wet enough? Maybe I'm grasping at straws? :dunno:

I just used a wall paper scraper to remove the box and glue,

Hi Wilder

Interesting. How recently did you do that? I'm wondering if they have changed the glue, as the stuff on mine doesn't seem like it would come off with a scraper like that.

I just slotted the scraper on the glass and pushed into the box.

If the blade if sharp then it will not scrape the glass.

You sould be able to get some glass polish to get the cloudyness off.

I have managed to get the remainder of the glue off with just a bit off ordinary house polish and a lot of elbow grease.

Now its just the glass scratches. I've found this http://www.briliant.biz/moreinformation.as...amp;ProductId=8 which somebody said works well. Anyone know if it is toxic to fish?
While we're at it what about that Mr Sheen I've already used, presumably I should make sure that is all removed before setting the tank up. Would ordinary Tap Safe do it, or something a tad more specialised?

Are you sure its scrated and not just a light coat of silicon? Personly I just hid mine behind the new external intake pipe.

Its very hard to get scratches off glass.
You would have to rinse the tank well and let dry out for aday if you are using products to get scratches off the glass.
