What are some posobilities for a 30g tank. I was planing on making it a reef becuase the tank my mom bought me comes with some live rock and sand i believe but im not sure on the sand part. I should be going out for it tommarow or saturday to pick it up then i'm going to take my sweet time setting it up so i can research about the fish you all suggest. (i hope someone suggest some)

Clowns are always colourful, Royal Grammas are stunning fish and relatively easy to keep (though they can be a bit shy at first). Fire fish... very easy to keep but make sure the tank has a lid as they tend to jump. Dwarf Angel like a coral beauty etc. These really should be added later but they can be quite hardy and definately a stunning looking family of fish

Well i was just looking for a good starter pair that i could get. The closest place that sells marine fish is petco and petsmart doesnt sell them. So when i go to get them i'd have to bring like a tubaware box or something lol. I figure i'd wait till the end of next month to get fish to ensure the live rock is addapting and if i have a cleanup crew by then, their well.... cleaning. I want to give myself plenty of time to make this the most perfect tank i have ever owned.

If your liverock is in the tank for a month without fish, how are you going to feed the liverock?
I would add something to keep bacterial levels up or by the time you add fish you will have hardly any bacteria to take the load of the fish

Well would a clean up crew make the "food" it needs to eat? Becuase i'd like to get like two or three green hermits, i think those are cool. But a clean up crew consists of what? Snails, starts, shimp? Would they be fine in there while theres no fish? If not would the fish you suggested be alright in there without the amenenies (spellings probly way off) and "fegitation"?

Inverts (including cleanup crew) dont give out much in waste. ths is why so many can be added ot a tank without fear of overloading the system. So i wuld say that they wont be enough to fed your liverock.

GEt a fish in there early and let it settle in. Try a royal gramma. stunning fish, a little shy but not aggressive. they like to show off when they get territorial but its all show.

ok. How big do they get?

OH! Like the crazy fish from finding nemo with the purple and yellow :) Yes lol i think i might try that

The Crazy fish?

Do you mean Dory, the Blue Tang?

Sadly the word Tang cannot be in your vocabulary with a 30 gallon.

Clowns do not need an anemone. Clowns IMO, are overrated. In the long run, you will be able to house 2-4 fish in a tank that size, choose wisely.

A royal gramma would be a good starter as Nav has said. The coral beauty or a flame angel would be a good choice among dwarf angels. Dottybacks and wrasses, along with some gobies would round out your choices.

The crazy fish I think he is talking about is the royal gramma in "Gills" tank. The one who likes cleanliness :D

GL is right, dwarf angels are great and colourful fish for your tank. I didnt advise one straight off because they can be a bit pricey (Flames are pricey over here) and for a starter fish i would not want you losing money if the worst happened, (its not fair to you or the fish). I would also introduce a dwarf angel last as they might just (only just) have a territorial problem with later additions.

Wrasses.. great choice! I have loads of them in my tank.

I have 2 6 Line wrasses (although i dont recoment keeping 2 together.. mine came via a long story :-( )
These little wrasses are lovely and colourful and very very active. Great characters too! very nosey and always poking around the liverock loking for a tasty snack! great for a small reef tank like yours.
I also have a Banana wrasse (the white bellied variety as there seems ot be some confusion over these species). It grows larger than the 6 line but again its a great character and very active. I chose the banana over a yellow tag because i already had an emperor tang in my tank and wanted a fish of vibrant yellow to be seen in the tank.

The full yellow banana wrasse is a perfect addition too. In fact it looks prettier as it grows older due to the fact that its face gets green stripes on it.

I'm mad! I was saposed to pick up the tank from the garage sale yesterday and she said she was going to clean it pecuase there was a hampstar living in there for a while so its not cleaned still. I want over today and she saidd the garage was so messy, she couldnt get into it but her son was in there and he was the one that greeted me FROM IN THE GARAGE! So i'm going back tommarow at maybe noon. So yea! I'll have to look for pictures of the fish you suggested and once i make up my mind, i'll do a little research while the tank may be cycling wihtout rock or fish. I think a week is a good cycling period right?

EDT- Ummm whats the price range on the fish suggested? On the dottybacks and they were at the cheapest 19.99.
