The 30's were the beginning of the boom in tropicals. Innes launched his magazine in '32 and his iconic book was published in '35. Up until then goldfish were king. Given that stocking levels back then were off-the-charts, this little vessel could have held just about anything from small goldfish to a community of small tropicals. We wouldn't dream of doing that now, but this was another, formative era. But you're right. It's is a stunner, design-wise.
