Newish Tank

Day 6 (20 hours)

Ammonia 0

Nitrites 0

Nitrates off the scale.

Woo hoo. Looks like I am very close to cycling now!!

Didn't think it would go this quickly. Guess there was more good bacteria in the media than I thought.

I think tomorrow before I leave I will move the media over into my larger tank as that one is still cycling!!

Well, remember the cycle isn't really over until the NH3 and NO2 drop 12 hours after dosing consistently. Generally it is suggested to continue that for a week before adding fish.

Yeh I know. But I'm away for 4 days tomorrow so I won't be able to keep cycling it. And my other tank is still cyclying. So I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Give my bacteria a good kick in my big tank and also not loosing bacteria from my small one

I have just put my filter media into my large tank. As it needs a good kick of bacteria. My fish in cycle is far more important.

So I will put my fishless cycle on pause, till I get back, I will leave it in there for a week or 2. Then move it back over and just finish it off an put some fishes in it

I now understand what you were saying. I wouldn't actually say that this is putting your fishless cycle on pause at all. In fact, it will probably help in the long run. There are some bacteria for sure in that filter and they will help your big tank along and at the same time keep growing for the smaller tank. Both tanks will probably benefit from this move... :good:

yeh exactly. I didnt think I was making sense lol!

Glad you understand now. Yeh I did think it would help both tanks. So hopefully when I get back, the big tank will be cycled. Will leave it for a week, then remove the filter and just double check that in my smaller tank, and then add some fishes :D

Do you have any ideas for a small 50 litre?

I'm thinking a fighting fish, some cardinals and honey gouramis.

Honestly, I don't have any thoughts for a 50L, that's why I bought a 56 gallon tank. All my ideas kept telling me I needed more space!

What about some shrimp?
