Hi Everyone . After many years of no fish I decided to get a small 22ltr tank to take up a small spot on the breakfast bar. Left to cycle for a month then bought a single cherry shrimp.. He lasted around 2 weeks then I found it dead behind the filter . I changed this internal filter to a hob by fluval which is on the lowest flow output and still a bit to fast.i am looking at creating a small weir on the inside to deflect the water. Will post this once completed.any wayAfter checking the water and all was ok I decided on purchasing some glow light tears and 4 x shrimp, also I have some moss balls and a few plants although I'm unsure what these are I think one is Java moss maybe. The shrimp have since in a few months multiplied to about 35 and a second shrimp has just hatched its eggs with what look like 15 plus very small young I had removed the tetras to an old tank on the arrival of the first hatchlings but will re introduce them to see if they keep the numbers down failing that I will sell them on ..next thing I would like to do is re landscape this tank after seeing great images of other small tanks ..

Welcome to the forum.

I would not reintroduce the tetras back to the 5 gal tank, this tank is too small for most species of fish, the usual exception being a single Betta Splenden.

But if you want o keep your shrimps, then would advise not to add a Betta, more than likely the betta will make snacks of the shrimps. Unless though of course there are Bettas that ignore shrimps and snails, I would not chance it tbh.

The cool thing about shrimps, they usually only breed if there is a plentiful supply of food and space, if you you feed the same amount of food every time, the shrimps will slow down their breeding. So keeping numbers down should not pose a great problem as long as you stick with the same regimen.

because of things like that, i reckon shrimps tank set ups are cool :)

I have a 19 litre half moon tank just for Red Cherries and Amano shrimps and a couple of nice Ramshorn snails.
