i've currently had my fish for a few days, but i've noticed that most if not all the fish spend alot of time at the top, whether they are looking for food or gasping for oxygen i don't know. the new small fry seem to be doin the same,

thought it was the filter, so i've cleaned that and now the water circulates properly with bubbles, but is this normal or is there something wrong.

since saturday one of my fish have had fry and the other has died, took them to the aquarium center today, the sed maybe bad luck n replaced them with new fish, but they still go to the top.

took a water sample to the centre and they sed it was ok.

please advise.

If they are all doing it, it looks likely that something is wrong with oxygen levels, I'm not sure about how high filter flows are meant to be, hopefully someone else can help you there.
What fish are in your tank, how many, and what size tank, also can you post your water stats please?

For short term you may want to go out and get an airstone before you lose anymore fish.

Though I think in some circumstances things like aerosols, scented candles and inscense and smoking around the fish tank can be known to affect the water, is there anything near your tank like this?

Position your filter so it moves the surface of the water more. Add an airstone.

Also - Are you dechlorinating the water before adding it ? Are you watching your water stats ? Did you cycle the tank prior to adding fish ? If you havent cycled the tank you need to be doing daily water changes. If you dont know how to do them, just ask, there are lots of posts here telling you how to do them properly.

hi thanks for the reply, think it was down to the filter. cleaned it up and the fish are swimming all over the place.

only issue i have now is that the bigger fish have killed 3 of my fry, as my tank is a wall aquarium, was advised by the shop keepers to use some plastic plants for the fry to hide in, as the breedin tanks were a bit to big for my tank. Is it just a matter of chancing it with the fry, (though i've only got 1 fry left of the original 4) or is there something that i cud use to keep the fry separate. as i'm new to fish keeping i don't have a spare tank.

reason's why i want to sort this asap, is that i suspect that one of my other fish are due to have new fry soon, as she is bigger than usual.
