Im currently doing a fishless cycle and was wondering when it comes to a water change how exactly do you get tap water to be the same temp as the tank straight away?

Say if i do a 25% water change... can i not just put water straight from the tap into the tank as long i've treated the tap water first? or do i need to get it to the right temp also?

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks,

Ian.

In newly set up tanks it is best to temperature match the water; it only needs to be roughly right for a 25% change, just feeling it with your hands will be fine. You can use boiling water from the kettle, or from the hot water tap, whichever is easiest for you.

Once your tank has been running with fish for six months or so, the bacterial colony is a bit more robust, and you can use straight cold water for any changes of up to 50% or so, as long as you trickle the new water in fairly slowly, so as not to shock the fish :good:

You're very welcome :) Don't forget to dechlorinate!
