been looking into getting a custom tank made, one option i've come across are corner weirs. what are they used for? can they just be used to help hide things like piping and heaters if say they are black? or am i missing a big point here.
i'm currently researching setting up an african cichlid tank, eventual size will be between 5 maybe 6 feet in length.
please excuse my ignorance, but its best to ask eh!

Weirs etc are generally for marine tanks, you would have a pipe at the bottom leading to the sump. Having said that you can have freshwater tanks with sumps etc.

sure can
I have a tank with a weir that directly feeds a canister filter
the weir can be seen in the left hand corner of this pic

you could theorectically hide you heater in the weir, but mine is never full
and it does lead to a lot of evaporation, so there is always the chance of the heater
becoming unsubmerged and blowing
