Hi everyone,

I am new to aquatics and what a bad start I have had, I purchased my stock from a bad aquatics store that only cared about sales and not about the well being of the fish, after a very intense learning curve my tank is cycled and all my fish are happy, the main reason I have joined is to gain some info on my angel fish. What basically happened is I was sold to many fish and not even informed about cycling tanks or any of the important things, my Tank was over stocked I had a ick problem and a severe case of fungal fin rot so cycling the tank went out of the window while I was treating the fish after loosing half my fish and treating all the problems I started to sort out the cycling problem, now from what I have been reading about online my tank is almost cycled, ammonia is 0ppm, nitrite 1.0 ppm, nitrate 10ppm, ph 7.6. So about the angel fish, "ray" he had ick then fin rot but he is treated now but his nearside pectoral fin has took a lot of damage from the fin rot and because of this he swims around on his side hence the name "Ray" he seems well in himself and is eating and interacting with the other fish fine but I want to know is will the fin grow back at all or not ?

Also any advice on my tank would be much appreciated!

Before you ask my tank is 40 litre, elite stingray 10 filter, air stone, heater.
The fish I own are 2 mollys, 1 angel fish, 1 betta fish, 1 peppered cory catfish, 5 mini venus guppies.

I have no problems with the fish not getting at all.

get a new tank now a 55 gallon should do that tank is way overstocked your nitrates and nitrites are a little high.welcome BTW

Hi, welcome to TFF.
I apologize on behalf of NCguppy830. I'm sure she didn't mean to sound so upfront and harsh. Essentially though, She's right. It would be best to rehome some fish or get a 55 gallon. :)

Quick update just did a water change then tested the water, ammonia 0ppm, nitrate 0ppm, nitrite 0.25, and ph 7.2 so it looks like my water quality is improving dramatically.

ncguppy830 I am in the process of buying a juwel Trigon 190 and with the rapid learning curve I have had I will be cycling it properly, lucky for me my fish are very young so I have time to get things sorted before they grow.

ps thanks for the help

:hi: to the forum.

You need a bigger tank, at least 55 gallons for the Angel Fish. If you can't get a bigger tank then you will have to rehome all of the fish except the Betta (only fish there that is suitable for a tank of that size).

If the Mollies are females or one is male and the other female, you can almost guarantee that they will have fry (if they're female and they have been in contact with males over the last six months then you will still get fry).

The Cory needs to be in a shoal of at least 6.

A 190 tank won't be big enough for the Angel. They need at least a 55 gallon.

Cheers for the advice I will get a 250 litre tank instead of the 190, but does anyone know if the fin of my angel will grow back ? ps cant believe how cheap the tank in usa are compared to the uk.

will I be able to add more fish when I get the 250 ?

It really depends on how extensive the damage was, some grow back and some don't :( I have a nubby cory myself, not sure if he'll ever get his back. I bought him that way though.
So glad to hear you're going to get a bigger tank :)
I'm not good at stocking numbers and whatnot but I believe you should be able to. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay, sounds good. Make sure that the 55 gallon is at least 18 inches tall.

Yes, you will be able to add more fish. (Make sure to check on compatibility before buying - always do your research)
One thing that you will have to do is get some peppered Cory's. in a 55 gal could could have a nice shoal of 10+. :)

Oh god, I'm sooo sorry. I promise it's not maliciousness on my behalf I just thought you were a she when I first met you and it's just kinda stuck in my brain. I'll try to avoid it in future. :)

congrats on the upgrade. Did you do an instant cycle by transferring filter media? Also did you put your peppered in there? They like sand so that tank would be great for a cory. And they love big groups so get a nice group of 6-10 or even more.

A 190L would be fine for an Angel on its own.

There might be a problem between the Betta and Angel as things mature though..

My breeding pair of Angels are in a 260L with 12 Corydoras Sterbai and 10 Cherry Barbs and still slightly understocked - although my filtration is a Fluval 406 so over filtered almost twice over.
