Hi,

We have inhertited a tank with the following fish

1 x Small Pleco (about 4" long)
1 xSmall upside down catfish (about 4" long)
3 x loaches
3 x Gouramis
5 x tetras
5 x neons
3 x discus
2 x cichlids

How often should we feed and what should we feed and when? Any other advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'd start by feeding lightly once a day, watching to see that you only feed them what they can consume in 2 to 3 minutes. This will be tricky with the different types of fish in there, so you may have to make some allowances for a few of the different types. This will give you some time to mix in some discussions with various people here, some of whom will know various good things for individual species.

How big is the tank (dimensions and water volume) and do you have a good liquid-reagent based test kit? Were you given any history of the tank and how it was maintained and any particular problems noted?

~~waterdrop~~

Hi the tank is about 120 Gallons. It has a good fluval filter and we have bought a water testing kit.

The reason for my question on how often to feed is I spoke to a local pet shop and they said twice a week, but I am not convinced this is enough?

You're correct that it wont be enough to feed twice a week. I agree with waterdrop, feed lightly once a day to begin with.

And are you sure it's 120gal?...Almost 500litres?
I'm not saying you're wrong, it's just one hell of a tank to 'inherit'.

You're going to need to be feeding things such as:
Flake
Cichlid Pellets
Sinking wafers (particularly with high % of Spirulina)
A couple of algae wafers
Frozen or Live brineshrimp
