Newbie - 48Ltr Tank - Overcrowded?

Hi all,

I'm fairly new and we have a interpet fish box 40, which is a 48ltr tank and the dimensions are approx 43cm high x 40cm wide x 42cm long. Which has been running for a couple of month.

Just after a bit of stocking advice please.

At the mo we have:
5 Glow Lights
5 Neons
2 Gold Gouramis

Is this already overcrowded or is there anything else people can recommend? (I Have some pictures but not sure how to add them. sorry)

Gold gourami get a bit big for your tank, but a good alternative could be honey gourami. Grow much smaller by comparison but look quite similar I would do this then leave the stocking for a few months and consider adding a few more fish to the schools maybe up them to 8 each.

Dwarf guoramis would also be an option they have great colors and are quite a bit smaller

was thinking of getting a bottom feeder of some sort, does anyone have any recommendations?

What about a small cory catfish? Or a small kuhli loach?

Both those need to be in groups of 5 minimum and thats too much for that tank. You could do a group of shrimp though, like cherry shrimp? Or bee shrimp any of the small ones

the guys at the shop recommended a clown loach (i think thats its name, it was an orangey colour with black stripes)
would these be too big?

sorry for all the questions, i'm a keen learner and dont want to do anything to hurt any of them

Agreed, imo not beginner fish either.

they also need to be keptin groups being a very sociable loach, so not at all suitable for your tank im afraid.cheers Eva.

I'd go for a group of 3-4 pygmy cory's.

Bristle nose she'd need 90+L, as for cory cats you'd also probably need 100+L for a happy amount. Clown loaches are a deffiatly a no they they would need like 150L minimum really. Id disregard your pet stores advice they don't seem very trust worthy.

Bristle nose plecs would do fine in a tank this size as would cories, as for clown loaches you need atleast a 6 footer for them.
