Newbie - 48Ltr Tank - Overcrowded?

If you live in kent I've a lovely baby bristlenose you're welcome to.

Bristle nose she'd need 90+L, as for cory cats you'd also probably need 100+L for a happy amount. Clown loaches are a deffiatly a no they they would need like 150L minimum really. Id disregard your pet stores advice they don't seem very trust worthy.

Bristle nose plecs would do fine in a tank this size as would cories, as for clown loaches you need atleast a 6 footer for them.

sorry, i'm a little confused would a Bristle nose plec be ok in my 48ltr tank?

Yes, they get to about 4-5 inches and are pretty docile and do not move around much.

Clown plecos and pitbull plecos do well also.

the guys at the shop recommended a clown loach (i think thats its name, it was an orangey colour with black stripes)
would these be too big?

I know its been said already but I was ill advised by LFS re clown loach but got 2, (without researching myself), have one left now (who we adore) but are looking to rehome due to potential size. I am really annoyed us newbies are so ill advised, we trust these shops to help us. I am going to ask these guys opinions from now on.
They are brilliant though and if (when) I get a huge tank I would defo get them again.

another member has advised 2 gold gouramis are too much for my tank, do you agree?

Those would grow too large for your particular tank. They aren't massive fish but for that tank they would be a bit too big, and two of them as you have would create too much waste .

If you can return or re-home them then I'd say do so and replace them with either a single dwarf gourami, or a pair of Honey Gouramis ( very small and sweet )

3 Julii Cory catfish (beautiful fish if you're looking for bottom feeders)
4 dwarf neon rainbowfish
2 dwarf suckermouths

that IMO is definatley NOT a good tank to follow as juliis get to be 3" and need 2 more individuals, the rainbows need another friend and lots more swimming room. the barbs needing 1 more friend.

for your sucker fish i would go with 3 otos, i know thy dont seem really impressive, but they dont have a huge bioload for suckers and they can be kept singly, plus they are entertaining.

and a previous poster said to return BOTH gouramis and either get a DWARF or get 2 honey gouramis.


if i were you i would replace the neons with something a bit less active, like all male endlers or ember tetras (which are fequently used in 5-10 gallon setups) but if you really want to you can keep them.
