I have a 4ft 200 litre tank , has been up and running sinc ethe end of march, first off had no real problems, I went with the fluval 406 cycled the tank added fish ..
** went for the bigger filter ( can never have enough ehh ?? )
got myself a few live plants decoration etc. the levels indicated that my tank had fully cycled and then out of the blue massive alga problem.. tested my tap water as my LFS said that the high levels of nitrates could have started the bloom so I also got myself a UV filter.
Tap water NO3 level 40 ppm
Still getting a slight algae problem as I also replaced my spray bar with a direction nozzle , which made cleaning the front of the tank more simple. I should have posted sooner but I have been busy fighting the NO3 level, been hitting up www. a lot and have tried mixing tap water with RO. I work for a mineral water company so I did try the fresh spring water thing ( although transporting 50 litres a week in my car and un screwing tops off bottles was a pain ) to just using RO water and a tropical re-mineralizer and yesterday after a couple of months buying the RO water from my LFS I have now bought my own RO filter.
Still trying to get my nitrates low enough so I can track how quickly they raise currently now doing 45% per week and yesterday got them dow to 40ppm.
Just curious if it would be safe to do more than 1x 45% per week really
have uploaded a few pics to photo bucket so hope this works ..
