I cannot believe it, I have only has these guys 4 days!! 2 of the little Geo Brasilliensis are busy laying eggs under a rock!! I thought they were waaaayyy to little to be upto this sort of mischief yet. Seymour the little gold sev is NOT a happy bunny and keeps trying to get under the rock. My question is from what I have quickly read on the net these guys are suppose to get aggressive when spawning. However as they are only about 3+" and not much bigger than the Ellioti I dont (hope) think they will be too much problem. I am a little worried about Seymour as he is really poking his nose into the activity, I am hoping that he or the little plec will eat the eggs overnight and I wont have to worry.

Seperate them! and sell me some cheap when they get big enough!!!!

Thats really not helpful  I have over 100 convict fry, Rotkeil severum fry (27) and 30 odd Juvi Ellioti, I cannot have any more babies (well yet anyway) I can see my 400l tank being a fry tank at this rate :hyper:

oooooo0000000ooooh!!! You've opened a can of worms now! I've been looking for a sev for a while as well as some slightly diff cichlids. Wanna sell me some baby fishes? :hey:

 Its the two largest isnt it? I told you I thought they might. Yep Brasils will bred from a young age, 3" is about right. They can get aggressive too, however, seymour did/does bullying them a bit, so he's probably trying to annoy them. If they retailiate, I would move him, in with the Rotkeils/Texas. They will likely be more aggressive with the other 2 Brasils though.

On the other hand, I would remove the eggs if they are not eaten, because once these guys start, they will spawn every few weeks and you will be overrun. Net the eggs out and give them to Jethro :)

Meanwhile, I shall go hide, for giving you more fish that spawn :shifty:

Well they gave up using the cave because Seymour has claimed it and he was merrily eating the eggs as fast as they were laying them last night. However this morning there is one flat rock absolutely covered in eggs!! all the other fish are at the other end of the tank, the 2 smaller Geo's are hiding amongst the other Ellioti and Seymour is in his cave. I am watching closely, there is the odd bit of chasing and flaring from the pair, but nothing really to worry about, the rest of the fish are staying well out of the way. Hubby has said I may aswell re-set up the small tank I have just shut down (easy enough) but it will have to wait till tonight as my mum is comming to dinner and she gives me enough grief about having too many tanks

Minxy no need to hide hun, you know I am bonkers about my fishes I think its fantastic, just shocked they would spawn so quickly after being moved!

Big Eyes, I would happily sell you some fish, its just getting them to you. There is someone advertising on the AC site who travells up and down the M6 who will pick up fish and equipment, cheaper than a fish courier, I will keep my eyes peeled for their number. The Rotkeils are too small yet but the Ellioti are big enough to go if you fancy some of them.

They were on the verge of spawning anyway I think, good luck if you set up a tank for the fry, I personally wouldnt, unless you can find an LFS happy to take them for nothing, because Brasils are hard to sell on, particularly when as soon as you remove the eggs, they will spawn again.........and again..... You could end up with hundreds you cant get rid of, then they will start to pair off at 3" and spawn and spawn. These guys I got off the guy that breeds them and he cant sell them in his shop, got tanks full of em

I dont think I will set up the other tank, I have the other 400l in the conservatory now I need to get working on that, clean up and re-sealing and set up so I can move some other fish about then the Brazilliensis can go in with Jethro & Gibbs & Texas and a convict pair(? maybe). I wont have to feed him again lol with all those heavy spawners (just kidding of course I will feed him) The sevs can go in the other 400 with the Ellioti (till they all go). As all the fronts are ok in the 300 for the time being as they are all little still. Then I can move the sevs to the 300l and fronts over to the 400, simples

The tank seems really calm, no one has been bitten (except me) so I am leaving them be, if they hatch (which I doubt they will) they hatch. Was going to remove the eggs but I got bitten too much and as they seem quite calm about it I am leaving well alone lol. I can always net the fry if need be, I wont get bitten then lol

Pm'd :good: :D

Came down this morning full expecting to see all the eggs gone........ but no all still there all looking good and healthy, everyone swimming about happily paying no attention whatsoever to the tasty morsals on the rock. No one is arguing, the female is casually hovering above the eggs and the male is swimming around with the other fish and comming back to check on every so often. Ironic, if I wanted to keep the eggs they would have been eaten already  lol

Hopefully once they hatch, they will become more tempting to the others!

Trouble is once they hatch I will go aaaaaaaawwwwwwwww lol

Yes but think about 100+ brasiliensis 10" size then they wont be so cute
