Hello and welcome!

Your first port of call should be the FAQ section, you will find loads of good info in there to get you started. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/forum/52-tff-faq-topics/

in terms of adding water, you really need to buy a water conditioner. These will remove chlorine and chloramine from your tank water as these can be harmful to fish. You can 'get away' with simple tap water in some cases, but it's certainly recommended to add conditioner.

The fish seem to be fine with the water they are in just dont want them to be floaters one morning what conditioner do you suggest my frined?

there's plenty out there that will do the job, but Seachem Prime is highly rated. It's very concentrated so will last ages (0.6ml will treat 10L) and be very cost effective.

do you know what fish you have in the tank? If not, are you able to post some pics so that we can identify them for you? Different fish like different types of set-ups.

in that case, no plants! Malawi's do need plenty of rock caves so that they can each establish their own territories and have somewhere to hide if they need to.

What size tank (gallons/litres) have you got and how many fish in there? If you could also get a pic of the fish so that they can be identifed then that would be great.

I think you should continue asking questions about this set-up directly in the Old World Cichlids sub-forum. There will be plenty of experienced Malawai keepers over there who will be able to help (I've never kept them).

Hello and welcome to the forum,
You have come to the best place for friendly advice.

Keith.

Yes, hello from me too. Are you familiar with the details of filter cleaning and substrate cleaning. Also water testing is a good topic we should check on.
