So I just set up my 36 gal. I have tetra safe start coming iin the mail soon And here are the questions!
-Should I dose with pure ammonia? How much?
-when should I add the safe start?
-what temp should the water be at?
-how should my reading go?
Sorry for all the question! :)

I'm 2 weeks into fishless cycling - I topped up to 4ppm with Kleenoff (aquarium friendly) - needs to be one with no detergent added. Then when the ammonia munchers start to work I dropped it to 2ppm. If you need help the TFF calculator has the formula at the bottom of the page.
Temperature needs to be 28-29°C which is about 82-84°F. It also helps if you've got an air stone or bubble wall to aid extra oxygenation for the bacteria.
I used mature gravel as my starter so can't help on the Safe Start - what does it say on the bottle?

How the readings will go is a tricky and long answer so I'll direct you to the beginners section and will post the link in a mo

Read the section on fishless cycling - it goes into great detail and is very helpful. Good luck!
